Successful primary tumor research with PET-CT in case of metastatic cancer.

A swollen lymph node developed on the neck of a 48-year-old woman; during 2 weeks of antibiotic treatment the size of the abnormality increased further. Biopsy proved a malignant tumorous metastasis. Despite the thorough medical check-up, we could not identify the initial location of the process; research for the primary tumor was not successful. A PET-CT examination was performed to discover the primary tumor, during which a cancer of the root of the tongue could be visualized, the presence of which was proved by the histological examination.
