Successful change of the therapeutic method after a PET-CT examination.

A 65-year-old female patient who was operated with colon cancer showed up at our center after surgery and chemotherapy to detect the possible metastases. The performed abdominal and thoracic CT showed multiple lung metastases but nothing else. With PET-CT examination we diagnosed her thyroid cancer (second tumor) and we assumed that lung metastases are the consequences of this (this was afterwards proved by the histological examination). This way the PET-CT examination widely contributed to the accurate diagnosis thus the patient could get the adequate treatment. As a result of this her lung metastases regressed.
